PEL GENERAL CONTRACTING

PEL Contracting/Bear River Plastics is looking for an individual to join our team.

POSITION: Carpenter/Welder Assistant in our floating dock manufacturing facility in Cornwallis, Nova Scotia.

QUALIFICATIONS

CARPENTRY

General carpentry skills, such as but not limited to accurately read a tape measure, use skill saw, band saw, hand grinder, chop saw, hand drill, and hammer nails.

General working knowledge of common safety procedures around welding shop.

Read and understand simple drawings and be able to take direction from senior carpenters.

AS A WELDER ASSISTANT

Experience or willing to be trained on Lester Extrusion Fusion Welder, Model #3, Assorted butt fusion welders, and Polycarbonic Fusion Press.

General knowledge and safe working procedures around common welding shop equipment and gas/flame cutting equipment.

Some knowledge of aluminum spool gun and operation of same with regard to welding fabrication an asset but not a requirement.

Safe operation of skill and band saw for prep of plastic for welder’s inventory, an asset.

General

·       Education: High School Diploma preferred.

  • 2+ Years Experience Generally required in Carpentry.
  • Punctual, reliable, self-starter.
  • Commitment to working safely.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

- Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and sketches to understand project specifications.
- Measure, cut, shape, assemble, and join materials made of wood, wood substitutes, and other materials.

- Collaborate with other construction workers to ensure projects are completed accurately and on time.

- Work under the direction of senior Carpenters and welders in PEL Contracting/Bear River Plastics.
- Operate and care for construction equipment and tools.

- Perform other miscellaneous duties including errands as necessary, deemed by the project manager.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Full time
  • Ability to meet the physical demands of the job (combination of standing for long periods of time, lifting heavy loads in excess of 40 pounds, walking, crouching, kneeling, etc.)
  • Salary hourly rate is 18/hour in Canadian currency.
  • Day range is Monday to Friday with occasional and optional weekends.
  • Language is English, French is not required.
  • Regular shifts are 8hrs/day, with extra hours available.
  • Ability to commute; will relocate to Cornwallis NS B0S 1H0.
  • Work is mainly in shop with occasional off-site projects.
