Job Summary


Graphic designers provide the best design strategy/solutions to meet the corporation’s business, marketing and communication goals and objectives. Graphic designers specialize in visual communications and brand identity programs, signage, wayfinding systems, internal and external campaigns, publications, web/ digital design. Working with the Graphic Design Lead and under the direction of the Manager, City Marketing, the successful candidate will provide efficient management and execution of design projects.


This position will be required to work in a hybrid work arrangement (some work from home and some work in the office) for an undetermined period.

Duties and Responsibilities


The successful candidate will:

  • Design and prepare artwork for a wide variety of design projects; social, web, screens, print, signage etc.
  • Direct photoshoots as required.
  • Work closely with internal departments to make design recommendations.
  • Work within established timelines to ensure deadlines are met.
  • Provide input into the selection process and use of outside design illustration/ photography/ print/ reproduction services ensuring cost-effectiveness is maintained, quality is attained and the timely delivery of final product.
  • Work closely with the Print shop to ensure quality, cost-effective products.
  • Manage client relationships.
  • Manage time, resources, documentation and administration of personal workload.
  • Manage electronic filing of projects as part of the project process.
  • Implement and maintain the Corporation's Visual Identity Program, ensuring correct logo usage.
  • Keep current with changing trends in design and technology.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Skills and Qualifications


  • Must have 4-6 years in communication design experience with a university or college degree/diploma in Graphic Design.
  • R.G.D. accreditation is considered an asset.
  • The City of Mississauga is looking for an experienced graphic designer with excellent conceptual skills who can generate innovative and strategic design ideas.
  • You must be able to design for various media, print and digital, execute them effectively and on time.
  • This role includes working closely with internal clients from various business areas, strong and effective communication and presentation skills are required.
  • You will have expertise in the most current Adobe design and web software.
  • Prepress and print production experience is preferred.
  • Must have solid project and time management skills and work well within a team environment.
  • A Level 2- Criminal or Judicial Matters Check (previously Regular CRS) will be required of the successful candidate, as a condition of employment, at their own expense, to verify the absence of a criminal record for which a pardon has not been granted.
